BEDFORDSHIRE CAPTAINS GOLF SOCIETY

CONSTITUTION - Adopted October 2012

1. Membership.

Full Membership of The Bedfordshire Captains’ Golf Society is open to Club Captains and former Club Captains of all golf clubs affiliated to The Bedfordshire County Golf Union where the relevant club has formally agreed to the content of this Constitution and signed the relevant agreement.

Associate Membership of The Society is automatically open to all Club Captains and former Club Captains of affiliated golf clubs where the golf club concerned has not (or not yet) agreed to the content of this Constitution and not (or not yet) signed the relevant agreement.

2. Society’s Management Committee.

The Society will be run by a Management Committee made up of its President, Captain, Vice Captain, and Immediate Past Captain together with the Honorary Secretary / Treasurer.

The President will be elected for a term of Three Years with the remaining officers holding post for a term of one year – all appointments to be ratified at the Society’s Annual General Meeting in October each year.

3. Membership Application.

Associate Member Clubs that wish to become full Members of The Society should formally apply to the Society’s Honorary Secretary who, in turn, will present the application to the Society’s Management Committee.

The Management Committee’s recommendation will then be put to the Society’s A.G.M. and a decision will then be based on a majority vote of voting members present (see 8 (iii) below).

4. Applications.

Applications by individual clubs for Full Membership of The Society must:

i. Indicate that the Club agrees to make its Course available for selected matches and meetings free of charge.

ii. Agree to attend a meeting between the Society’s Management Committee and the applicant golf club at their Club premises.

iii. In the case of proprietary, privately owned and Public Courses, obtain proof of the owner/manager’s agreement to the terms and use of facilities in 4(i) above.

iv. Indicate that the Club agrees to the appointment of a former Captain of The Club as Liaison Officer between the Club and The Society.

5. Subscriptions & Funds.

i. An annual subscription will be levied on each individual member (both Full and Associate), payable by Bank Standing Order.

ii. Funds will be managed by the Management Committee and administered by the Secretary/Treasurer.

iii. The accounts will be subjected each year to an independent review by a suitably qualified person appointed by the Management Committee and then presented to the Annual General Meeting for adoption.

6. Competitions & Events.

i. Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Christmas meetings will be held annually. These will be open to both Full and Associate members only and the Society’s Golfer of The Year Trophy will be awarded on the basis of the best combined score from these four competitions.

ii. Teams representing the Society will participate in inter-county and other social matches including both The Jubilee Trophy and Triangular Trophy events.

iii. Guests are not permitted to play in the Society’s golfing events although they may attend any or all social events that occur including after match dinners.

7. Recommended Dress Code.

i. It is the tradition of the Society that in all golf matches, members wear Society branded golf shirts and sweaters (either pullover or slipover).

ii. At formal meals and functions members are encouraged to wear a Society tie and a navy blue blazer adorned with the Society Badge.

(Society ties, pullovers, slipovers and golf shirts together with Blazer badges (for navy blue blazers) are available for purchase from the Honorary Secretary / Treasurer).

8. Annual General Meeting.

i. The Society’s Annual General Meeting will be held in October each year and will be chaired by the President, or, in his absence the Captain.

ii. Items for the Agenda for the A.G.M. (or any Extraordinary General Meeting) must be submitted to the Honorary Secretary not later than twenty one days prior to the date of the meeting.

iii. Any item submitted for inclusion within the agenda for a General Meeting must be proposed by a Full Member and seconded by at least one Full Member of the Society.

iv. Only Full Members of the Society will be entitled to vote at General Meetings (Annual or Extraordinary) although Associate members will be entitled to attend and take part in all / any debate that may take place.
